November  2021

November 20th and 21st, 2021: Its time to for the WNYRHS 40th Annual Greater Buffalo Train & Toy Show at the Event Center on the Fairgrounds in Hamburg, New York.

Dads, Moms and Kids of all ages will love the variety of items see and buy. Over 350 tables full of great railroad, model railroad, vintage toys and more! Five layouts - Two "HO" gauge. one "N" gauge, one "O" gauge and one "S" gauge will have trains running both days. Queen City Amusements will be there with their carnival layout. The Williamsville Lehigh Valley Depot crew is ready to go with their ever popular basket raffle. Speakers and demonstrators are lined up for both days of the event.

There is ample free parking and Admission is only $8.00 , KIDS 12 and under are FREE! Hours: Saturday - 10am to 5pm, Sunday - 10am to 4pm.


         On Tuesday, November 16th, 2021 we will hold our November Public Meeting at the Don Owens Center on the Heritage Discovery Campus located at 100 Lee Street in the City of Buffalo starting at 7:00pm.

After a brief business meeting, including updates from the various WNYRHS departments, our November program will be presented by Society Member Geno Dailey covering a cross-country Amtrak trip he completed last month and will feature photos and commentary covering trips on six Amtrak trains including the Lake Shore Limited, Capitol Limited, Southwest Chief, City Of New Orleans, and the Sunset Limited. Among the highlights will be visits to Cedar Point Amusement Park, railfanning at Chicago's Roosevelt Road, A visit to the new La Plata Lookout Point Park that's under construction in Silver Rails Country in La Plata, MO (that will also be the new home of the Exhibition Of Amtrak History) as well as a visit to a cosmetically restored former Santa Fe EMD SD40 in Marceline, MO. We will also do some Southern California railfanning in Fullerton, San Clemente and Del Mar. This was one absolutely incredible journey through our beautiful country that you won't want to miss

There is ample free parking and is open to the general public. Guests are always welcome.

October  2021

Heritage DiscoveRY Center, "Fall Car Show" - 12:00pm - 4:00pm

On Saturday, October 2nd, we hosted a Car Show at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center Buffalo located at 100 Lee Street in Buffalo. Amost 100 all makes and models of cars & trucks were on display. There was no registration fee, but donations to the museum were greatfully accepted.

A Disc Jocky supplied music all afternoon and there was a food tent and plenty of displays both inside and outside the museum to view. Parents brought their children to ride on our restored "RailMaster" Amusement Park Train. The weather was perfect and we look forward to next years show which will be even bigger and better!





October 13th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Steel Plant Museum of WNY as we welcome Monica Pellegrino Faix, as she will be discussing the Historic Preservation of "Buffalo Central Terminal." Advance reservations for this event are recommended. Call us at 716-821-9361 to make yours!

Doors open at 5:30 PM, presentation begins at 6:30 PM. The Museum will be open before, during, and after the presentation. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

August  2021

        Finally we are back to a sense of normal. The Western New York Railway Historical Society is holding our first "Railway Heritage Discovery Festival" at four locations starting August 25th through the 29th. Click the Flyers below to get all the details.

Starting on Wednesday, August 25th, we'll be at the Williamsville Depot where you can see our recently aquired locomotive, Conrail #8666 ex. Lehigh Valley #252, as well as our A&A boxcar and Lehigh Valley Caboose. The Western New York division of the National Model Railroad Association will have an operating train layout and Operation Lifesaver will have a table of information. Railroad lantern hand signals will be demonstrated throughout the day. Hot dogs, pop and snacks will be available to purchase. Free popcorn for the kids!

On Thursday, August 26th, the crew at the Orchard Park Depot will have a Basket Raffle and a 50/50 Split drawing. The Western New York Garden Railway Club will have a large scale railroad display. The extensive renovations on the Depot and grounds are finally complete so the depot will be open for all to tour and enjoy all the updates. They will have hot dogs, pop and snacks for sale.

If you'll be in the Hamburg area on Friday August 27th, you can see our ALCO HH660 Buffalo Creek #43 locomotive in operation. The Buffalo Southern Railroad will also have at least one of their locomotives running as well. You can also see on display, our Pennsylvania Railroad, #4483 steam engine. This engine is the last of the Pennsylvania Railroads "I1sa" locomotives in existance which was built in 1923. You'll want to get a photograph of this massive 2-10-0 locomotive.

On the weekend of August 28th & 29th, please plan to come to our first annual Railway Heritage Discovery Festival at the Heritage Discovery Center on Lee Street. Our Amusement Park Train will be giving rides for the younger kids, as well as outdoor displays of historical interest, tours of the museum plus a mini outdoor train show in the parking lot featuring model trains and railroad items for sale.
