         Our September Public Meeting will be held on Tuesday November 13th, 2018 at the Don Owens Center on the Heritage Discovery Campus located at 100 Lee Street in the City of Buffalo starting at 7:00pm.

Our program will focus on the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Railway through slides and movies through its early history to the B&O takeover in the 1930's.

There is ample free parking and is open to the general public. Guests are always welcome.

November 7th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Steel Plant Museum in welcoming historian David Kinyon for his talk about the Lockport Locks. This is sure to be a fascinating look at the local history of the Erie Canal!

Doors open at 5:30 PM, presentation begins at 6:30 PM. The Museum will be open before, during, and after the presentation. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

         Please join us on Friday, October 19th, 2018 at the Don Owens Center on the Heritage Discovery Campus located at 100 Lee Street in the City of Buffalo starting at 6:00pm.

We invite everyone to participate in a "Brainstorming" event to generate ideas for the future of the Heritage Discovery Center. It starts at 6:00 pm and continues until we run out of ideas. All are welcome to participate. It all begins with the stories we want to tell, the audience we want to share them with and how we want to tell them. Please join us to contribute your ideas.

Dreamers are encouraged and welcome for this first gathering, at future meetings we will put on our realist glasses to help refine and filter the ideas generated. Then the critics will have their chance to improve what remains. If enough people are willing to participate, we can schedule regular sessions on Saturday afternoons from 3:00-4:00 pm to continue generating ideas and growth at the Heritage Discovery Center

It's time for our 4th Annual Steelfest! Come to the museum to tour our exhibits, shop with local vendors, and grab lunch at a food truck! As always, this event is FREE.

Our program for the evening will be a presentation of a program that the Society put together for a recent meeting of the Kenton Historical Society. It covers the history of the railroads that passed though the Tonawandas carrying passengers and freight between Buffalo & Niagara Falls.

There is ample free parking and is open to the general public. Guests are always welcome.

September 5th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Steel Plant Museum in welcoming historian Mary Ann Colopy for her talk about the Buffalo Housewives during World War One. This is sure to be a fascinating look at an untold history of women in Buffalo!

Doors open at 5:30 PM, presentation begins at 6:30 PM. The Museum will be open before, during, and after the presentation. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

August 18th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center - 12:30pm - 3:30pm.
Doors open at 12:30pm. Admission is $5.00 at the door.

On August 18th, To celebrate the 72nd Anniversary of the end of World War II, the Steel Plant Museum will be hosting a Rosie the Riveter Rally! We will be joined by The Buffalo Dolls, and some real life Rosies! Come out and celebrate their hard work to secure our freedom! Please wear your best Rosie outfit! We will be sending in photos of our Rosie look-a-likes to the American Rosie the Riveter Association! Pizza and refreshments will be available.


August 1st at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Steel Plant Museum in welcoming Debra Hall-Stonish from "Explore Buffalo." Debra will present how the Erie Canal had a significant impact not only on the growth of Buffalo but the growth of the nation!

Doors open at 5:30 PM, presentation begins at 6:30 PM. The Museum will be open before, during, and after the presentation. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

Saturday, July 21st. - Our July Public "Summer Social and Picnic" Meeting will be held at the Don Owens Center on the Heritage Discovery Campus located at 100 Lee Street in the City of Buffalo starting at 7:00pm.

As is our long annual tradition, our summer meeting will feature our hot dog cookout with our special deal on a dinner consisting of two dogs, side salads and a pop for just $10. Food goes on at 6pm and you will have a chance to socialize with other members and perhaps meet a new friend.

After dinner, we will be showing a selection of old railroad movies and videos. If you have a favorite video, either shot by yourself, or purchased, please bring it to share with the members. This has always been a fun evening and a time to meet and talk with new members and catch up with old friends. There is ample free parking and is open to the general public. Guests are always welcome.

June 6th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Steel Plant Museum in welcoming acclaimed local author Erno Rossi. Erno will be presenting the history of the Crystal Beach Amusement Park. This is sure to be a wonderful look back at the glory days of Crystal Beach!

Doors open at 5:30 PM, presentation begins at 6:30 PM. The Museum will be open before, during, and after the presentation. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

May 2nd at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Steel Plant Museum in welcoming historian Lee Coppola for his talk about the Buffalo Mafia. This is sure to be a fascinating look at the untold history of Buffalo!

April 7th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  9:00am - 4:00pm

The WESTERN NEW YORK RAILWAY HISTORICAL SOCIETY and the Heritage DiscoveRY Center of Buffalo, will be hosting its Fourth Annual Indoor Garage Sale at the Heritage Discovery Center on Saturday April 7th, 2018 from 10am until 4pm. The event was a great success last year and is planned to become an annual event. If you have stuff you want to clean out of your closet, and/or garage, tables are just $10.00. We will have about 20 tables available to rent.

Doors open at 8:30 AM, if the weather cooperates, perhaps even some table space in the parking lot.

Starting April 6th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

For many people, steel making had reached the end of its glory days when they were young, and more still have never seen a working steel plant, let alone experienced what working there would have been like. Luckily, the steel plants in Western New York were documented many times over: by professional photographers, newspapers, and former workers, to name a few.

The Steel Plant Museum has a large collection of photographic prints and art pieces which are rarely seen by the public. This exhibit will bring those pieces to the forefront to showcase what life looked like at a steel plant. Admission is free.

April 4th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Steel Plant Museum in welcoming Greg Kinal! This history teacher and lecturer will present his talk about the Titanic. This will sure to be a fascinating look at this famous event just before its 106th anniversary.

Doors open at 5:30 PM, presentation begins at 6:30 PM. The Museum will be open before, during, and after the presentation. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

March 17th, 2018 St. Patricks Day "Pot Luck Dinner" at the HDC at 4:00pm.

Five years ago or so, we started a what has become an annual event at the museum, our St Paddy's Day Pot Luck Dinner for all our volunteers and members. This year it falls on St. Patrick's Day on Saturday March 17th and also coincides with the Annual Old Neighborhood St. Patrick.s Day Parade through the Valley and Old first Ward. So come on down to the parade and afterwards, stop by the Heritage DiscoveRY Center at 4pm. Bring a dish or desert to pass and join your fellow members and volunteers for some great food, friendship and good conversation. Its always been a great time. Our pot luck dinner is open to all members and volunteers of the society. So mark your calendar and we'll see you on St Paddy's Day!!!

         Our March Public Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 15th, 2018 at the Don Owens Center on the Heritage Discovery Campus located at 100 Lee Street in the City of Buffalo starting at 7:00pm.

Our Program will be presented by Society member Geno Dailey covering a cross-country Amtrak trip he completed in October 2017. The following Amtrak routes will be covered in this program: The Lake Shore Limited, Texas Eagle, Heartland Flyer, Sunset Limited, & Coast Starlight.

There is ample free parking and is open to the general public. Guests are always welcome.

March 7th at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center,  6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Steel Plant Museum in welcoming Angela Keppel, owner of the popular blog "Discovering Buffalo, One Street at a Time!" Ms. Keppel will present the stories behind the names of some of our most famous and interesting streets.

Doors open at 5:30 PM, presentation begins at 6:30 PM. The Museum will be open before, during, and after the presentation. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.

Its time to for the WNYRHS 27th Annual Winter Train and Toy Show February 17th & 18th, 2018 at the Event Center on the Fairgrounds in Hamburg, New York.

Dads, Moms and Kids of all ages will love the operating train layouts. Over 400 Tables filled with great deals! See - NOME's HO & N gauge Layouts, the Flower City TinPlate Trackers, Gowanda & Buffalo Model RR Club and more!          Our January Public Meeting and Multimedia Nite will be held on Thursday, January 18th, 2018 at the Don Owens Center on the Heritage Discovery Campus located at 100 Lee Street in the City of Buffalo starting at 7:00pm.

Our Program will be the Annual Members MultiMedia Night. So dig through last year's photos, or dive into your archives from years ago. You may find stuff that you haven't seen in years. Pick out your most interesting shots or videos and be prepared to narrate. We will have a regular slide projector and laptop & video projector available for use.

There is ample free parking and is open to the general public. Guests are always welcome.
