December 2nd, 2015 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

Steven Fox will be speaking about documentary photographer Milton Rogovin who photographed steelworkers at the plant and their homes. He revisited his subjects over 10 years after he originally photographed them. The photos tell the story of the decline of Western New York's steel industry, and the impact it had on its workers.
Doors open at 5:30pm, with the presentation starting at 6:30pm. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. We'll also have a 50-50 split club drawing to benefit the Museum. Admission is free!


November 17th, 2015 WNYRHS Public Meeting at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center. 7:00pm - 10:00pm

After a brief business meeting and an update on the Train Show and recent developments at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center, our program will Part II of our look back at the history of the railroads on the Niagara Frontier over the past 180 years. The program is a continuation of the Sep-tember Program and will focus on the DL&W, NYC, Erie and Buffalo Creek railroads. Drawing from the extensive resources of the WNYRHS and personal collections of our members, you will view historic photos and images of railroad structures, trackage and equipment that helped make Buffalo one of the country's largest rail hubs.


Starting November 13th, 2015 - 6pm - 9pm at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

Doors open at 5:30pm, Curator Megan Hahin has prepared this exhibit with the focus on steelmakers that aren't named Bethlehem. The exhibit will feature artifacts from Republic Steel, Donner-Hanna, Buffalo Forge, and other steelmaking ventures that existed alongside Bethlehem Steel. The museum will also have its gift shop open, with plenty of apparel and items featuring both the museum's new logo and as always, the event is completely free with free parking. Refreshments will be served and a 50/50 raffle will be held.


November 4th, 2015 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

Doors open at 5:30pm, with the presentation starting at 6:30pm. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. We'll also have a 50-50 split club drawing to benefit the Museum. The Railroad and Steel Plant Museums will be open before, during, and after the presentation. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted!

Rick Rowlands will discuss the activities and collection of the Youngstown Steel Heritage Museum, which he founded.

Doors open at 5:30pm, with the presentation starting at 6:30pm. We'll also have a 50-50 split club drawing to benefit the Museum. The Railroad and Steel Plant Museums will be open before, during, and after the presentation. FREE!


September 24th - 26th, 2015 pre-registration Thursday, 6:00pm at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

2015 NICKEL PLATE ROAD HISTORICAL & TECHNICAL SOCIETY BUFFALO CONVENTION: The highlight of the 2015 convention will be the Legacy Tour on Friday afternoon, September 25, 2015. Our deluxe motor coach will leave convention headquarters at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center and visit such Nickel Plate east end "hallowed ground" as Abbott Road Yard, the site of the Buffalo Jct. engine facility, SK Yard, the Niagara Frontier Food Terminal and a visit to Bison Yard and a tour of the former DL&W Terminal.

BIGS will be discussing their collection housed in the Heritage Discovery Center. They will also be discussing how to do your own genealogical research!

To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II, the Steel Plant Museum will be hosting a Rosie the Riveter Rally! We will be joined by The Buffalo Dolls, and some real life Rosies! Come out and celebrate their hard work to secure our freedom!

Doors open at 10:00am, with the presentation starting at 12:30pm. We'll also have a 50-50 split club drawing to benefit the Museum.

Chet Fery will be demonstrating award winning oven baked recipes!

The Buffalo Irish Genealogical Society (BIGS) will be hosting their summer meeting.

Doors open at 5:30pm with the meeting starting at 6:00pm. We'll also have a 50-50 split club drawing to benefit the Museum.


Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 - 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

Author Erno Rossi will be discussing and signing his book "Crystal Beach - The Good Old Days." The Crystal Beach Amusement Park was a popular for over 100 years, come find out more about the former iconic summer attraction! Find out more about Mr. Rossi's book here:  "Crystal Beach"

The Buffalo Dolls will be performing classic wartime songs and hits from the 40s, 50s, and 60s!

Doors open at 5:30pm, with the presentation starting at 6:30pm. Pizza, snacks and refreshments will be available. We'll also have a 50-50 split club drawing to benefit the Museum.


Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00am - 5:00pm at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

Please join us for the first Annual Steelfest! This event will take place in the parking lot of the Heritage Discover Center. Local craftsmen and cultural organizations will be setting up tables with information and goods for sale. We will be revealing our new logo and some brand new Steel Plant Museum merchandise!


Wednesday May 6th, 2015 at from 6:30PM until 9PM at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

Please join us for a discussion by Buffalo's Young Preservationists: Dana Saylor and Danielle Huber. They will be discussing the "I'm Steel Standing" campaign that was formed to try to save the Bethlehem Steel Administration Building. They will also be discussing the current state of preservation in Buffalo. Pizza and refreshments will be available for purchase. Also, there will be 50-50 split club drawing to benefit the museum.


Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 at 10:00am - 5:00pm at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center.

Please join us for our first Spring Garage and Bake Sale to raise funds for the museum. Tables will be available to rent in our meeting room for $10 per table and if the weather cooperates, out-door space in the parking lot behind the HDC will be available for rent as well. Contact Leslie at 901-0012 for further in-formation and to reserve your space. Also, call Leslie to donate your favorite baked goods for the sale or to volunteer to help out at the museum.

         Thursday, March 19th, 2015 from 7PM until 10PM at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center. Doors open at 6PM, presentation begins at 7PM

Our March Public Meeting will be held on Thursday March 19th, 2015 at the Don Owens Center on the Heritage Discovery Campus located at 100 Lee Street in the City of Buffalo. The building is located between Elk Street and South Park Avenue. Just use the Smith Street exit off the 190. Turn South on Smith, at Elk St turn left, then right on Lee St. Pull through the gate into the building parking lot. Use the entrance at the front of the building on Lee Street. There is ample free parking and the meeting which starts at 7:00pm, is open to the general public.

Our March program will be presented by Society Member Geno Dailey covering a cross-country Amtrak trip he completed in November of 2014. This very entertaining program will cover riding a total of 9 Amtrak trains and a visit to 4 Space Shuttles! This was an absolutely incredible trip and a program you won't want to miss!

Please join us for an evening with Franklin Delano Roosevelt! Local actor, Albert McFadyen will be portraying the former President. In the late 1990's he portrayed FDR in the musical Annie at both the Lancaster Opera House and at Villa Maria College. His performances were well received, and the rest as they say, is history. His role as FDR has evolved into his own one person production, An Evening With FDR which brings American History to life in both word and song. In 2006, his Roosevelt program was performed to a standing room only audience at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York. Pizza and refreshments will be for sale. Also, there will be 50-50 split club drawing to benefit the museum.

Tune in WNED-TV on Monday March 2nd, 8PM for a locally produced documentary on Buffalo's First Ward. Ed Patton and Ron Dukarm of the HDC, supplied many of the local railroading scenes included.

"BUFFALO'S FIRST WARD" tells the story of this neighborhood through the voices of those who live there. The First Ward and its residents, have a fierce pride, and that pride and endurance are responsible for the rebirth happening in the Ward today. "Buffalo's First Ward" captures this feeling of camaraderie and through it teaches us about where Buffalo has been and also where it might be going.

         Saturday February 21st, 2015 from 7PM until Closing at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center. Doors open at 6PM, presentation begins after meal.

         Hi Everyone: Just a reminder that we will be having our 14th Annual "WNY Slide Show", Saturday February 21st, 2015, being held for the first time in a new location and a new time.          I am also happy to announce that I had a great conversation with the folks at Tamron Lenses and they will be sending out an salesman and a tech from the company plus a representative of Delaware Camera to set up a table at the show to show their products and services. The big thing they are interested in is learning more about the railfan crowd and developing more products and events for our use and needs. They have offered to do a Q and A for show goers as well. We have the following people doing presentations: Devan Lawton, Greg Lund, Pete Swanson, John Romer, Richard Jordan and myself.

         Our January Public Meeting will be held on Thursday January 15th, 2015 at the Don Owens Center on the Heritage Discovery Campus located at 100 Lee Street in the City of Buffalo starting at 7:00pm.

After a brief business meeting and the annual election of Trustees, as is our tradition, our program will be presented by you and other members. It's our annual Member's Photo Night where we invite you to show off a selection of your favorite slides, digital images or videos. We will have a laptop and video projector available, as well as a slide projector for your use. We always say bring your favorite 40 shots, but if you have more, feel free to bring them along.

There is ample free parking and is open to the general public. Guests are always welcome.

You can also renew your membership for the coming year at the meeting and see all the new additions to the museum displays.
