The Nowingi locomotive was built to shunt gypsum wagons from the Nowingi gypsum plant to the mainline. The frame of an old 'Y' class steam engine was utilised with a GM71 series diesel motor driving a hydraulic drive to a chain drive to the back axle, then utilising the engine's side rods to drive the other two axles.

V56, featuring the now demised "Metropolitan Transit" 'green and yellow' livery, is a 40hp diesel-hydraulic shunter. It was used to move suburban pass sets through the washdocks in Jolimont workshops. It is now owned by the Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS) Victoria. It is on static display in the Australian Railway Historical Society museum, Newport.
V544, named 'Tim Fischer', features "Australian Southern Railroad's" 'black and orange' livery with Aurizon logos. It is owned and operated by Aurizon. This locomotive was purchased to replace G517 & G518 both scrapped after colliding head on with each other in Ararat, 26th November 1999.
