The "N" Class locomotive was built by Clyde Engineering in the mid 80's. This locomotive was intended primarily to run passenger trains. 10 'N' class locomotives where ordered as all of the 'B' class locomotives where to be upgraded to 'A' class. The 'A' class scheme was scrapped after 11 'B' class locomotives were upgraded and another 15 'N' class locomotives where ordered. The original "V/Line" 'tangerine' paint scheme was eventually replaced with 2 slight variations of the "V/Line Passenger" 'blue, red and white' scheme, followed by the "V/Line Passenger" 'red, white and yellow' 'Mark III' livery and to date the "Public Transport Victoria" 'violet, white and yellow' livery. 3 N class locomotives were rotated on duties on standard gauge to run the Albury passenger service after the standardisation of the Albury (NSW) - Seymour broad guage line, however these services are now run by Velocity DMUs. 4 N class locomotives are currently leased to Southern Shorthaul Railroad (SSR), for broad guage operations. The power of these units is 2510hp. More Information.
