SEPTA Main Line Lansdale Station Lansdale PA April 13 2007 |
Part Ten of an ongoing series. Part One is here, Part Two is here, Part Three is here, Part Four is here, Part Five is here, Part Six is here, Part Seven is here, Part Eight is here, Part Nine is here. |
After months of preparation, the major work in the Lansdale area commenced on April 13 2007. This weekend SEPTA will replace half of the grade crossings at Main Street in Lansdale. Even before the scheduled 19:00 closure of the street, they started by removing the bolts that held the old rubber crossing mats on the Bethlehem Industrial Track and Running Track ..... |
while other workers were busy cutting the rails for the new concrete crossings. |
SEPTA continued to run trains on the runner and Station Track 1 even while the crews started to assemble at the site and get everything ready. |
Finally at 19:02, the signs at Broad Street went up and through traffic ceased .... |
as the last car out of the SEPTA parking lot passed a Lansdale Police cruiser that now blocked the road. Time to get down to business, and never was urgency more important. A Nor'easter was bearing down on the region and was expected to dump a least a few inches of rain during critical work scheduled for Sunday, throwing a potential monkey wrench into the plans. |
