CSX retired the GP16's by early 1993, and they ended up everywhere from the scrap yard to working for short lines. I have only really followed the GP16’s through their career ending with CSX. I have listed the disposition info I could find on the CSX GP16's. I'm sure others have more detailed info. - CSX 1700 Retired 1/8/1992. Unit went to Conrail and rebuilt for US Army as their number 4627 in 1992. The 4627 was assigned to Seneca NY. The Army identifies this rebuild as a GP9M on their roster. Source: 2, 9.
- CSX 1701 Retired 2/18/1993 Unit went to Indiana Railroad in Indianapolis, IN as their INRD 1701. By 2011 the 1701 went to Foster Townsend Logistics in East St. Louis IN. Source: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1702 Retired 12/19/1990 Unit went to Conrail and rebuilt for US Army as their number 4626 in 4/1992. The 4626 was assigned to Seneca NY. The Army identifies this rebuild as a GP9M on their roster. Source: 2, 9.
- CSX 1703 Retired 8/19/1992 Unit went to Minnesota Valley Railroad, Minneapolis, MN as their number MNVA 316. At some point it went to Western Rail as their WRIX 316 Sources: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1704 Retired 1/13/1993 unit went to Indiana Railroad, Indianapolis, IN. Unit later went to CANAC International as their CANX 1704. Sources: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1705 Retired 8/09/1991. Unit went to C&F Locomotive Services, Blacksheer Ga. Then to Excello Locomotive Services, Waycross, Ga. 8/1992. It was stored in Waycross for a while before going to Rio Valley Railroad as their # 1705. Click HERE for photos of RVSC 1705. Sources: 2, 4.

- CSX 1707 Retired 1/13/1993. Unit went to Minnesota Commercial Railroad, St Paul, MN. At some point the 1707 went to Idaho Northern & Pacific Railroad as their number INPR 1707. More info on INPR. Source: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1708 Retired 6/14/1991. Unit went to Conrail and rebuilt for US Army as their number 4629. The 4629 was assigned to Radford, Va. The Army identifies this rebuild as a GP9M on their roster. Source: 1, 2, 9.
- CSX 1709 Retired 4/30/1992. Unit went to Alabama Railroad, Flomaton, Al. Renumbered 8/1992 Source: 1, 2.
- CSX 1710 Retired 3/22/1991. Unit went to Conrail and rebuilt for US Army as their number 4628 and was assigned to Ft. Carson, CO. The Army identifies this rebuild as a GP9M on their roster. Source: 2, 9.

- CSX 1712 Retired 2/18/1993 reported stored at Waycross, Ga in 1994 before going to RJ Corman and painted as their RJCP 1712. In 2002 the unit was acquired by The Everett Railroad Company as stated on their company website. Source: 1, 2, 10.
- CSX 1713.Retired 2/18/1993 stored at Waycross, Ga before going to RJ Corman as their RJCR 1713. Unit is still in service as of April 2011. Source: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1714 Retired 1/13/1993. Unit went to the Fort Smith Railroad (Pioneer Railcorp) Source: 1, 2, 3 (issue 100 Page 16) Unconfirmed but this could be the same Locomotive PREX 1606
- CSX 1715 Retired date unknown. Unit went to Conrail and rebuilt for US Army as their number USAX 4630 and was assigned to Radford, VA. By 2004 the 4630 was reassigned to Ft. Stewart, Ga. In June 2011 the 4630 was shipped to Ogden UT to be overhauled. The Army identifies this rebuild as a GP9M on their roster. Source: 1, 2, 4, 9.
- CSX 1716 Retired 1/13/1993. To Kaiser Aluminum, Halehorpe, MD; To Canton Railroad Late 1993 and listed as renumbered CTN 1752. The Canton Railroad also received CSX 1758, and renumbered it to CTN 1751. The Canton Railroad Company is an Industrial Switching Carrier located in East Baltimore City and County, Maryland. - CSX 1717 Retired 2/18/1993. Unit went to Louisville & Indiana RR, Louisville, KY, and then to South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad as their SKOL 1717. Then to Webb Asset Management as their WAMX 1001 for photos clink HERE. Sources: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1718 Retired 1/13/1993. Unit went to Indiana Railroad, Indianapolis, IN. INRD 1718. In July/August 2011 Metro East Industries prepped and painted the 1718 for Toledo Junction Railroad TJRR 1718. Source: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1719 Retired 6/25/1992. Sold for scrap to Steel Processors, Waycross, GA by 7/07/1993. Source: 1, 2.
- CSX 1720 Retired 1/13/1993. Unit went to Mississippi Central and renumbered 1605 in early 1993. Transferred to Decatur Terminal in early 1994 as 1720. (Suspicious info although it could be correct, but why renumber it back to 1720? DTM) Others have listed it as Decantur Terminal DT 1607 and PREX 1607 Sources: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1721 Retired 6/25/1992. Unit went to Aberdeen, Carolina and Western as their 1721 in early 1993. Unit was reported scheduled to be renumbered 1600. Source: 1, 2. Note: CSX 1721 was rebuilt from a GP18 and would have had the fuel filler located at the front of the fuel tank. Shots of the ACWR 1721 has the fuel filler located at the rear of the tank. - CSX 1751 Retired 1/13/1993. reported stored at Waycross Ga awaiting disposition in 1994. Based on info found online, The CSX 1751 went to the Alabama & Florida RR as their AF 1751, but was later renumbered AF 1612. it would be great if someone could check the frame number on the AF 1612 to verify. - CSX 1761 Retired 7/23/1991 Sold for Scrap to Steel Processors Service, Waycross, Ga. Unit seen in scrap yard at Waycross Ga. 5/09/1992 and 5/08/1993 only frame and trucks left both years. Checked frame number 5022-5 to identify as CSX 1761. On 5/08/1993 also noted that on the right front step area there was a raised number 789 in a weld. Must be referring to the SCL number of 789 that this unit once was. Interesting though it wasn't’t built as 789. Sources: 2, 8

- CSX 1794 Retired 1-26-1991 Sold for scrap to Steel Processors, Waycross, Ga. The 1794 was seen in the scrap yard at Waycross Ga. on 5/09/1992 and 5/08/1993 only the frame, trucks and fuel tank were all that was left. - CSX 1796 Retired 6/25/1992 and sold for scrap to Naporano Iron & Metal, Newark, NJ. Unit was released from CSX’s Locomotive Shop in Hamlet NC on 11/11/1992. - CSX 1797 Retired 1/13/1993 Unit went to Pee Dee River. In the beginning the 1797 was working in CSX paint, but the CSX was painted out. Later it was painted PDRR. See photos of PDRR 1797 Sources 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1798 Retired 7/23/1992. Released from CSX’s Locomotive Shop in Waycross, Ga. On 12/17/1992, but no destination was listed. Diesel Era has it listed "Sold for Scrap to Steel Processors, Albertville, Al." . Sources: 1, 2, 5.

- CSX 1805 Retired 2/18/1993 Unit was stored in Hamlet NC before going to R.J. Corman. as their RJCR 1805. As of August 10, 2010 unit was in Lexington, KY and is being used for parts. Sources: 1, 2, 4.

- CSX 1811 Retired 2/18/1993 Unit was stored in Hamlet NC before going to Caldwell Country Railroad as their CWCY 1811. Sources 1, 2, 8.
- CSX 1812 Retired 2/18/1993 and was stored in Hamlet NC before going to Rail Switching Services as RSSX 1812. Sources 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1813 Retired 2/18/1993 and was reported stored in Hamlet NC as of 1994. Unit later went to Indiana Railroad as their INRD 1813. By 2011 the 1813 went to the Indiana Railway Museum as their IRM 1813. Sources 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1814 Retired 2/18/1993 Unit reported stored in Huntington WV and moved to Hamlet NC 11/13/1993 on Train Q696. See Photo Sources: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1815 Retired 2/18/1993 Unit reported stored in Waycross, Ga as late as 3/25/1996 The 1815 went to York Rail as their YRC 1602 Sources: 1, 2, 4.
- CSX 1816 Retired 2/18/1993 Unit reported stored in Huntington WV after being retired by CSX. At some point this unit was sold off, and around 1999 showed up in Valdosta, Ga. as UTC 1816. One might think that this unit went to Union Tank Car, no doubt because of the UTC lettering on the long hood. But that's not the case...it was sold to Universal Trans Corp. (yep...UTC) at Albany, GA, and has been on lease to ADM (Archer-Daniels-Midland) at Valdosta Ga. UTC dissolved in 2010, and the unit was sold to Pioneer Railcorp, where it remains on lease to ADM, and still retains the UTC lettering. See Photos. Souces: 1, 2, 4, 11.

- CSX 1819 Retired 2/18/1993 Unit was stored in Waycross, Ga before being sold to Gauley River Railroad LLC in 1999 for use on a shortline in West Virginia. The 1819 was serviced and painted on the Buckingham Branch Railroad in Dillwyn, VA., and renumbered GRIV 1819. The shortline in WV fell through and the 1819 was leased out and even spent some time working in Texas. In 2005 the 1819 was sold to the Buckingham Branch and renumbered BB 8. Source: 1, 9.

The unit was then leased to the Shenandoah Valley Railroad under BBRR, and worked there until experiencing major engine issues. - CSX 1823 Retired 2/18/1993 and stored in Waycross, Ga. Unit was still seen in storage on 10/12/1997. The 1823 was sold to Gauley River Railroad LLC in 1999 in nonworking condition. The purchase of this unit also included 3 other CSX GP16's that were in working order. (1819, 1821, 1822) The 1823 was used for parts and later scrapped around 2002 or 2003 in Dillwyn, VA. by Buckingham Branch RR. Source: 1, 2, 8, 9.

(? by DTM) Then became Mississippi Central Railroad Company number MSCI 1605. It appears that the 1851 1st worked on the Fort Smith Railroad after CSX retired her.
