Summary
València is a medium railway knot on the mediterranean
coast.
The heaviest traffic happens on the line (France-) Barcelona -
València -
Albacete (-Madrid or Alicante). The regional network
("Cercanias" in castillan, or "Rodalia" in valencian) includes the
lines to Gandia or Platja de Gandia (C1), Xàtiva and Moixent
(C2), Buñol and Utiel (C3), Quart de Poblet (C4), Sagunt and
Teruel (C5) and to Sagunt and Castelló de la Plana (C6). The
goods traffic is concentrated on the lines to Barcelona and Albacete.
València
and surroundings València-Norte
The main station of València is named "Northern station"
(Estacion del Norte) and is located... south of the town centre. This
name is from the fact that it has been built by the former spanish
northern railway company (Norte). It is a terminus station, quite small
for a big town like València (only 9 tracks at platforms,
with
only 6 ones long enough for long trains). Because of this situation,
there are lots of train movements entering or leaving.
Fuente San Luis (Saint Louis's source) is located south of
València, on the line of Barcelona. It is a very interesting
station, not only because of the goods traffic, but also because of the
engine shed, well visible from the platforms (but alas very difficult
to photograph).

the former brown and cream "Estrella" livery)
Terminus of the very
short regional
line C4: less than 10 kilometers in 14 minutes with 2 intermediate
stops. Works of the prolongation through the streets of Quart de Poblet
until
Riba-Roja are proceeding, together with the prolongation of the subway
line 3 to the Manises airport.

Top Sagunto / Sagunt Sagunt
is located around 30 kilometers north of València, on the
Barcelona line. It is an
interesting station to photograph: much passenger and goods traffic, an
automatic level crossing middle of the station, and a good
orientation (instead, lots of shadows from around 20.30).
The EMU

generation of dual-gauge fast trains (standard gauge / spanish broad
gauge). Sagunt, 21.7.2005
Silla is located on the
line to Albacete and Madrid, at the junction of the local line to
Gandia.

Top Benifaió-Almussafes
First stop after Silla in direction of Xàtiva,
Benifaió-Almussafes has a wide track layout without any
obstacle for shooting, nice trees as background, all that well oriented to
photograph (best the late afternoon). There are also 2 automatic level crossings. One
of the best spots of the region!

Top Algemesí Algemesi is the next stop after
Benifaió-Almussafes in direction of
Xàtiva. A nice little station with straight tracks, wide
platforms, and an automatic level crossing. To recommand!
