SEPTA |
A station is FINALLY born : Part Nine (or rather the 9th) and final chapter of a continuing series Part One can be found here, Part Two here, Part Three here, Part Four here, Part Five here, Part Six here, Part Seven here, Part Eight here. For a look at the very beginning, A grade crossing is born and A grade crossing is still not born. |
Late on Saturday November 14, SEPTA was still installing lights and touching things up. |
Four minutes after sunrise, November 15 2015 at 6:49, Train 511 becomes the first train to make a revenue stop at 9th Street Station .... and no one got on or off. |
No one was parked in the 200+ space parking lot. |
It might not have helped that Ninth Street was still not open on the south side. It was open on the north side via Kenilworth Ave. Or it could have been that it was 6:49 on a Sunday morning. |
By noon on Sunday, things are looking up, a dozen or so cars were in the lot, and there is even a passenger waiting as Train 531 rolls up. SEPTA was also there, cleaning up the area for the real opening day on Monday. |
So, in eleven years, six months and 15 days, it went from this on April 30 2004 ... |
to this on November 15 2015 |
