SEPTA Ninth Street Station Lansdale PA November 2015 |
A station is born : Part Eight of a continuing series Part One can be found here, Part Two here, Part Three here, Part Four here, Part Five here, Part Six here, Part Seven here. For a look at the very beginning, A grade crossing is born and A grade crossing is still not born. |
It's November 2, less than two weeks before opening, and the first course of asphalt is down for Ninth Street and the parking lot entrance ... |
and by tomorrow the rest of the parking lot will be covered in blacktop. |
The normally sleepy Kenilworth Avenue will become a through street in 11 more days, time will tell how busy it gets and whether a previously proposed continuation of Ninth Street to Cannon Avenue and Moyer Road will come to fruition. November 4 2015 |
November 4 2015 and first course of asphalt down ... |
two days later and top coat is down and sealed. November 6 2015 |
Six days until opening and the gates and signals, after sitting dormant for 11 years, finally come to life. November 9 2015 |
Four days to go and signs are starting to pop up, which is odd because it was thought that Ninth Street would be two ways, will see if this is only temporary. November 11 2015 |
The parking lot has been painted, leaving the last two major things to complete the entrance canopy and the lighting. The former is getting its roof applied and surrounding landscaping finished ... |
and the latter has all of the concrete bases poured and wired ready for installation of the LED light standards. |
November 12 2015, three days until the soft opening, light poles are sprouting like mushrooms and it looks like a decade of waiting will finally end. With the opening of Ninth Street, there will be seven train stations within a 3 mile radius of the new station (North Wales, Pennbrook, and Lansdale to the south, Fortuna, Colmar and Link Belt to the north) with significant improvements being made to Lansdale (a 667 space parking garage, proposed opening summer 2016) and Fortuna (proposed transit oriented development with approximately 60 homes and SEPTA's subsequent upgrade of station facilities including a high level platform). Busy time for the North Penn area. |
