SEPTA Doylestown Line Lansdale PA March 18 2015 |
A station is born : Part One |
SEPTA has begun work on the "temporary" station at Ninth Street in Lansdale. This week the North Penn Reporter featured an article discussing the new station and the future of Fortuna Station. In the original plan from a decade ago, Fifth Street crossing in Lansdale and Fortuna Station in Hatfield would be closed with the opening of Ninth Street crossing and the new station. |
First up, site prep such as brush clearing. The fence stays, for now. |
Of course, with the vegetation gone and the rain and snow, it's a bit of a quagmire. Here is what it looked like back in August 2014. |
C&S crews dug trenches and ran conduits, presumably to either end of the future platform. |
By summer, Ninth Street will be open to two-way traffic. No word yet on Fifth Street grade crossing, which under previous plans, would be closed when Ninth Street opens. |
There has not been a formal naming of the new station, although Ninth Street Station seems to be the working title. Maybe SEPTA will ask for suggestions. For your consideration: "The Tile", "American Olean", "North Penn Business Center" or just "North Penn" for short, "Schweiker" (in honor of the former U.S. Representative, Senator and Secretary of Health and Human Services Richard Schweiker whose family owned American Olean Tile Company and where he served as president prior to his political career). |
