McCloud: Paint Shop

McCloud, CA, 11/2002. The lower end of the McCloud yards. The building in the center of the photograph is the railroad’s former paint shop, and the building to the right was the former backshop. The backshop was constructed shortly after the railroad opened, and the paint shop was constructed during the summer of 1909. The former backshop held Sprint Reload from about 1988 until 1998. The railroad used to deliver boxcars loaded with paper to the building. The paper was warehoused here until needed by the printers in Reno, when it was loaded onto trucks and sent south. Both of these buildings are now used to house rolling stock.
