Meetings The Society hosts regular membership meetings and programs at the Vestal Public Library, 320 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal, NY 13850. Meetings are generally held in the Lecture Room at that facility, on the evenings of the second Thursday of each month, September through June. Doors open at 7 pm and the program starts about 8 pm. Bad weather may cause the Vestal Library to be closed on a meeting night. When marginal road conditions are forecast or exist, please contact the library at 607-754-4243 before venturing out. 2012 UPCOMING CHAPTER MEETINGS Thursday, February 9, 2012 Member Bob Gongleski will provide the video Lehigh Valley’s Buffalo Division, Volume 3 - Sayre to Buffalo and The Niagara Falls Branch to Suspension Bridge. We’ll view film shot by a variety of photographers both during passenger service with double track mainline and after passenger service ended and track consolidation. Along the way, we’ll ride along with a crew aboard the train as well as view scenes trackside as we head west. Important facilities at Sayre, Ithaca, Geneva, Manchester, Rochester Jct., Stafford, Niagara Jct., Tifft Yard, Buffalo Terminal and Suspension Bridge yard are featured along with other locations. Thursday, March 8, 2012 Member Bob Pastorkey will provide the video Railfanning the Delaware & Hudson, Volume 2 - 1974 to 1981 featuring films of Ken Bealer & Robert F. Wilt. Highlights include Champlain, Saratoga & Susquehanna Divisions, D&H Turns, Lehigh & Former DL&W lines. View past chapter meetings in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, and 2005. 2012 UPCOMING BOARD MEETINGS Thursday, March 15, 2012 The next Board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 pm on March 15 at the Dunkin' Donuts across from the Mall on Reynolds Road in Johnson City. The SVRHS is always looking for volunteers to put on a program at one of our meetings. Programs can be anything railroad or railroad related using, for example, slides, narration, speaker informational, speaker educational, or video. The Chapter has available several media devices for use in presenting programs. Please contact us if you or someone you know would like to present a program. Exhibits The Roberson Museum and Science Center, 30 Front Street, Binghamton, NY, has built an expanded model railroad layout on the first floor. See photos on their Facebook page. The long-running SVRHS railroad exhibit has been removed except for the crossing flashers which have moved to the first floor. Items of local railroad interest are displayed at Southern Tier HealthLink, located in the Lackawanna Station in Binghamton, NY.
