It’s been a while since we’ve posted news. Our members have the advantage of receiving our chapter newsletter that keeps them up to date. If you aren’t a member, consider joining by going to the national website. You can join on line with their new on line registry.
The Golden Spike Chapter has been very active the past several months. Progress on the 223 tender is reaching its climax with the installation of the water intake piece. Soon it will be time to have the inside of the water tank coated then the outside painted and re-lettered.
Chapter members have also been helping the museum by checking on vandalism of rail equipment and reporting it to the authorities. We also secure the equipment with chains and locks. The snow plow was recently secured with screening over the windows to keep people out, especially vagrants who like to “nest” in there.
At our monthly meetings we have been discussing a number of topics. The national R&LHS is planning their 2014 convention to be held at the Nevada Northern RR in Ely, Nevada. Our chapter will not be hosting but will help out in any way we can.
There’s also preliminary planning for a possible fund raiser event to support the 223 restoration. We’ll have more on that later.
