Summary

Barcelona is the "capital" of the autonome region of Catalunya. The railway traffic is very intensive, with the big advantage (for the trainspotters) that it is concentrated on only few lines of the north-south axle.

Barcelona-Sants

In Barcelona-Sants, the main station of Barcelona, I shoot much less pictures than in Madrid-Atocha. I even shoot simply no one picture there. Why?

The problem is not the safety regulations, but is caused by the situation of the station itself: Sants is totally underground, with a very bad light, narrow perrons, and very much columns and masts. It is quite impossible to photograph here, eventual with a tripod, and then only to get quite bad pictures...

Forget it !

Barcelona, Estació de França

The "French station", former main station as Barcelona-Termino, is simply beautyful: A great station with a nice station hall, lots of marbres, wide and well lighted perrons. Only one bad side: there is only few traffic, only local and regional trains, usually about one train each hour.

Instead, to be recommanded !

Sant Vicenç de Calders

Sant Vicenç de Calders is one of the points where most of the traffic is concentrated: Almost all passenger and goods trains in direction south (to Zaragosa - Madrid and Valencia - Alicante) run here through, and there are also the regional trains "Catalunya Expres" and the suburb trains of Barcelona. I came here at about 13.30, and got away at 19.00 (after more than 5 hours and about 200 pictures), and all the afternoon I had simply no time for boring...
