Railfan Pictures of the Week - 2/02/2014
NS Harrisburg Line Bridgeport PA January 30 2014 |
With the retirement of most of the fleet of Sperry doodlebugs (2009, 2005 and 1991), most of the track inspection work is done with high rail trucks such as SRS 989. |
Normally high rail trucks are equipped with exciter circuits that trigger grade crossing equipment, but occasionally it does not work like here at Mill Street, which is why the crews stop and look both ways before proceeding with caution. |
According to their website, an inspection crew can log up to 160 miles in a day, and the good news is that at least with a high rail truck they can get off the rails and head to a hotel at the end of that long day. |
