Every SEPTA Silverliner V will spend at least some time on the back of a tractor-trailer. The Silverliner V mockup arrived dockside at the Tioga Marine Terminal three and a half years ago and was trucked to Liberty Yard. Two years ago the three pilot cars went to South Philly and also were trucked to Liberty. Since then, the 117 remaining cars were delivered as shells to the same South Philly location and a number sat there underneath the Walt Whitman Bridge until a spot on the assembly line opened up. Their truck journeys were much shorter, starting at Columbus Boulevard (Delaware Avenue to you and me) and heading north for a block ... |
turning onto Oregon Avenue and heading west for about a block ... |
before turning onto Weccacoe Avenue for another block ... |
before finally turning into the plant parking lot ... |
and for all three blocks, they are escorted by a detachment from the Philadelphia Police Department's Truck Enforcement Unit. |
