SEPTA Liberty Yard Philadelphia PA August 22 2008 |
SEPTA's Silverliner V mockup finally got the green light to move from Tioga Marine Terminal in Port Richmond to SEPTA Liberty Yard at Wayne Junction early Friday morning. Although less than five miles distant as the crow files, the route that provided the proper clearances took three hours to travel, with the car arriving just after 5:00. |
To help any low hanging wires clear the car without snagging, a pair of non-conducting poles were set up as skids. As it was, SEPTA electrical department personnel were at every intersection with trolley wires to raise them out of harm's way. |
The skids were the first thing to come off in the pre-dawn darkness. |
After sunrise, the daylight allowed a better examination of the car ... |
especially its underside, one last opportunity before it is put on a pair of shop trucks. |
