Louisville and Westminster to Become Quiet Zones

Written: 01-31-22

Two cities along the BNSF Front Range Subdivision, Louisville and Westminster, are becoming quiet zones, which means train crews are not required to sound their horn regularly. Currently, 112th Avenue and 88th Avenue are the only crossings in Westminster that have become quiet zones, 88th becoming a quiet zone in 2016, and 112th being activated this month. Currently, crossing upgrades are taking place in Louisville to allow quiet zones to happen, including quad gates, medians and fencing. Currently, there are quiet zones in place in parts of Westminster, Broomfield, Boulder and Niwot. The Louisville Quiet Zone Project is expected to be complete in 2022 or 2023.
