Oakland
Oakland is where members set-up their trains for operation. The yard is divided into two sections commonly referred to as the staging and storage yards. On the right is the staging yard consisting of seven tracks, each approximately 23 feet long. This allows for a train 30 cars long with 3 locomotives for power. On the left is the storage yard. Built summer 2005, the storage yard helps with train congestion and is stores complete trains on one or more of the seven tracks. Track lengths are about three feet shorter than the staging yard. There is a DCC programing track for Oakland that allows engineers to program, consist, and test locomotives without interfering with mainline operation. Pinacate, the west end reverse loop, is directly under this staging yard. Departing trains proceed eastward (away from camera) into the Fenner block, the next portion of our tour. |
