Norwalk

Norwalk is the center of the main urban area on the lower level of the layout. It is also the location of our largest passenger depot with a 650 foot long loading platform. The single track Oakland line joins our double track mainline just west of the depot to the left of the station (west) at Norwalk Junction.   There is also a set of double crossovers here on the mainline that can be used to move between mains 1 and 2 and enter Malin Yard, named to honor the late Jack Malin, an amazing model builder and one of the founding members of the California Southern MRRC.

This can be a busy area. Just about all passenger trains make regular stops along the station. Yard transfers cross both main tracks as they move cars between our staging yard "Oakland" and Malin Yard. Local switch jobs have numerous industries in a limited amount of space behind the station that demand near constant switching. Check out the photos below to get a mix of ground level and birds eye views of Norwalk.

The Engine Terminal is also close by, just across the mainline from the junction.
