NORTH POLE LIMITED!

HO! HO! HO!

On Sunday, December the 4th, and Sunday the 11th 2005, 154 and 174 young at heart travelers took a trip with Santa Claus on Amtrak©. Sponsored by the Western New York Railway Historical Society, they invited the whole family to ride the Amtrak© "Empire Service" train from Niagara Falls, New York, to the Amtrak© Station in Depew, New York, accompanied by Old St. Nick. Passengers met at the Depew, Amtrak© Station at 1:30pm when they boarded 5 Laidlaw© buses for the 45 minute ride to the Amtrak© Station in Niagara Falls. Santa hands up a Candy Cane to the Engineer. They traveled along the shores of the beautiful Niagara River winding their way back to Depew for an estimated arrival time scheduled for 3:51pm. Once aboard, Santa went straight to his work handing out goodies to all of the good "little children." With fresh snow on the ground and the temperature in the mid 30's, everyone had a wonderful time and the trip was over too soon. Special thanks go out to trip coordinator Robert Snyder for all his hard work in making this his third successful trip!

They followed Santa throughout the train carrying his extra goodies, taking pictures and answering questions when possible. Mrs. Claus did not want to stay at the North Pole while Santa had all the fun, so she followed Santa as he made his rounds and vowed she would not miss the chance to take this trip. Santa also brought along two of his "seasoned elves" to help take care of the train itself. Gerg J. and Bob S. all made sure the passengers were comfortable, the train was clean and helped keep track of 328 passengers that boarded the buses and train on both trips. Santa was very happy about all the help they provided and in making these trips so much fun! With the overwhelming success of these trips, we are sure Santa will be back again next year! On the return trip, everyone got a great "trackside" view of Buffalo's Central Terminal.
