Amtrak Catlettsburg Station (Tri-State Station) was located about 5 mile south of the Ashland, KY Station.  In 1975 Amtrak moved from former C&O Ashland Depot built in 1925 located at 1024 Carter Avenue, Ashland Kentucky to Tri-State Station in Catlettsburg, KY. 

Around 1988 Amtrak changed the station name from Tri-State Station to Catlettsburg and the three-letter station code was CAT. 

In March 1998 former C&O freight depot built in 1906 located at 99 15th Street was renovated and used for new Ashland Transportation Center, Ashland Kentucky.  Amtrak moved from Catlettsburg to the Ashland Transportation Center, so Amtrak Catlettsburg Station was closed.

Catlettsburg Station was replaced with Ashland, KY in March 1998.
