So
we arrived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Friday night. There was large
wedding going on, very loud. Mrs. Shuttletrain, TrainDog AJ and I
settled in and got some sleep. The next morning, we awoke and headed to Sioux
Falls Park. It was a little windy and chilly for September. The park is where
the Sioux River goes through the falls. There are two railroads that run
through or over the park.
As
we were leaving the park, a local switch job made its way into the park.
The
town is two depots; both are now under BNSF control, this is Westside one.
We
got on Interstate 90 and drove west to our next stop the Corn Palace in Mitchell , Iowa. We made a loop through the Badlands
National Park, and came out in Wall, SD, where we made our lunch stop at Wall
Drug. They do have a model train but the pictures don’t do it justice, so you
will just have to see it for yourself. Next was Mount Rushmore National Park. Our
arrival, brought a driving, cold rainstorm. While it
was great to see, it was miserable weather.
Next
stop was Hill City, to catch the 1880’s Train coming back from a wine train
trip. I was offered a ride to put her to bed for the night at 10:00 pm. It was
a once in a lifetime experience, that I hope will happen again sometime.
We
then headed for Gillette, Wyoming for the night.
That’s all in the next segment.
