HAGERSTOWN ROUNDHOUSE 1910-1999
Press Release on Demolition
Both the Museum and the National Railway Historical Society chapter
will continue to function, though the structures are lost. We have
continuing railroad preservation, education and restoration goals
which we are pursuing. Please return to this website for more
information as we progress with alternate plans.
The Hagerstown, Maryland roundhouse pictured at right
was the largest steam-era railroad complex remaining in the United States.
Members of the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum, Inc. have waged a tireless
ten-year struggle to acquire the property from CSX Corporation and restore
the roundhouse into a fully functional "living history" railroad
museum.
We have received over $400,000 in contributions and pledges. We
wish to thank the many people who have generously contributed funds to
this project.
