Genesee Society of Model Engineers 2008 Show
at
Batavia Downs Race Track

The Genesee Society of Model Engineers invited the Rochester Area S-Gaugers and the Western New York S Scale Association to show our combined modular layout at their semi-annual train show held at Batavia Downs Race Track on November 9, 2008. For this show we set up a couple of accessory modules in the combined modular layout. Click any picture on this page for a larger image.

Show Highlights

This enjoyable event was made possible by using the NASG S-MOD Standards which enabled the two clubs to connect their modules both electrically and mechanically.
Roger Delthony who agreed to be the RASG coordinator for this show, with the assistance of Craig Erickson, Dave Daniel and George Cole, set up a couple of accessory modules.

The action cars and accessories on the accessory modules are a big hit with our guests, as they can launch a rocket from a club-owned American Flyer rocket car (a great crowd pleaser) or, raise the logs so that the log loader accessory can load logs into the operating log car. Pressing another button dumps the logs into a log pond next to an operating sawmill. The sawmill then loads finished lumber into a gondola and there is a K-Line barrel loader accessory that loads barrels into a gondola by pressing other push buttons.

Roger Delthony set up some excellent scenery on a pair of modules. He had a Flyer circus on a corner module and on the adjacent straight module was the Gilbert Manufacturing company under construction, showing "steel" (Erector girders) going up. The sign in front of the construction site reads "Future Home of the A.C Gilbert Co. Makers of American Flyer Trains and Erector Sets". Spectators liked these a lot.

The Western New York S Scale Association has been abbreviated to WNYSSA in the captions of the photos below. Most of the WNYSSA modules were on the opposite side of the modular layout from the Rochester Area S-Gaugers modules.
