SEPTA Route 15 Richmond Street Philadelphia PA September 7 2014 |
Welcome to the new Richmond Street, pretty isn't she, trolley tracks, fancy lighting, new asphalt. |
The old Richmond Street is just a few steps away but almost completely obliterated, save for the rails that remain at the crossing streets and a bit at the north end. With the completion of this phase of construction (Section GR1) scheduled for 2016, the old right of way will soon be underneath the new I-95. The trolleys should return at that time (fingers crossed). |
The famous Reading/Conrail "truck eating" bridges are now gone, with access to the Port Richmond rail yard now via a temporary fill bridge to the south. |
On the other side of the fill bridge, they will be erecting new, vegetarian bridges with much higher clearances, guaranteed not to turn tractor-trailers into convertibles. The walls even have designs built into them, high class indeed. |
North of the new bridge, Richmond Street will curve back to the existing roadway at Ann Street. |
