Railfan Pictures of the Week - 9/28/2014

SEPTA Route 15 Richmond Street Philadelphia PA September 7 2014

Welcome to the new Richmond Street, pretty isn't she, trolley tracks, fancy lighting, new asphalt.
The old Richmond Street is just a few steps away but almost completely obliterated, save for the rails that remain at the crossing streets and a bit at the north end. With the completion of this phase of construction (Section GR1) scheduled for 2016, the old right of way will soon be underneath the new I-95. The trolleys should return at that time (fingers crossed).
The famous Reading/Conrail "truck eating" bridges are now gone, with access to the Port Richmond rail yard now via a temporary fill bridge to the south.
On the other side of the fill bridge, they will be erecting new, vegetarian bridges with much higher clearances, guaranteed not to turn tractor-trailers into convertibles. The walls even have designs built into them, high class indeed.
North of the new bridge, Richmond Street will curve back to the existing roadway at Ann Street.
