SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line Bridgeport PA January 4 2013 |
Last month, as workers examined and repaired temporarily the former Philadelphia and Western bridge over the Schuylkill River, SEPTA announced that due to its deteriorating condition, the structure may be closed this summer. That is, unless money comes from somewhere, which in the current financial climate, is hard to imagine. Even harder to imagine, December 2012 was the one hundredth anniversary of through service on the Lehigh Valley Transit "Liberty Bell Route" between Allentown and 69th Street. |
Inspection and repairs seem to be continuing into the new year, as a flagman is stationed at Bridgeport to control access on the single track to and from Norristown. |
Here N5 car 130, which has the distinction of being both the first delivered N5 as 451 and the last delivered N5 as 130, is about to cross over to the double track at Bridgeport. |
If the bridge is not repaired, shuttle busses will be used between Bridgeport and the Norristown Transportation Center. And if this were to happen, getting Bridgeport Station access up to ADA compliance standards will take a considerable amount of work. |
So here's hoping that this will not be the future end of the line. |
