SEPTA Route 100 Norristown Line King Manor Station Upper Merion PA March 1995 |
"So the last shall be first, and the first last" |
In 1991 SEPTA received the prototype car for the Route 100 Norristown High Speed Line, formerly known as the Philadelphia and Western Railroad. Car number 451 was basically a test bed, and after couple years of real world operation, they discovered what worked and what did not. Using that knowledge, the manufacturer ABB went on to produce the other 25 cars of the new fleet, which were delivered in 1993 and 1994. Eventually #451 was shipped back to the plant for upgrading and returned as #130. |
SEPTA N5 130 on the truck |
A bridge track allowed the car to be rolled off the truck bed and onto the rails. |
Finally back on its home rails, with many years of service to come. |
