SEPTA Norristown Line Miquon Station Whitemarsh PA November 20 2011 |
SEPTA and local emergency responders simulated a train versus car incident just south of Miquon Station on SEPTA's Norristown Line. Part One can be found here. |
First order of business is to make sure the area is safe, so the first responders stage their equipment while they await word from SEPTA that the catenary has been de-energized. |
After confirmation that the power is off, firefighters assess the occupant of the vehicle while others prepare to enter the train. Initially the "driver" was reported as decapitated, then there was some discussion as to whether he was still breathing, but in the end he expired on scene. |
To gain entry into Silverliner IV 305, they remove one of the emergency windows ... |
while for Silverliner V 701, they use tools to open the doors (no popping out any windows here). |
The ambulatory victims are escorted to a triage area where they are checked out. |
Back boards are brought onboard for the more severely injured. Because of the limited turning space at the end vestibules of the older Silverliners, the passengers are brought out through the emergency windows, whereas on the Silverliner V's, they are brought out through the more centrally located doors. |
The engineer of BL15 50 is also brought out on a back board and taken for treatment (and as per current regulations, the mandatory drug testing). |
