Railfan Pictures of the Week - 01/23/2011

SEPTA/CSX/NS Stony Creek Branch Norristown and Belfry PA January 17, 19 and 21 2011

CSX B738 made a trip from Woodbourne Yard to Lansdale via the NS Morrisville Line and Stony Creek Branch on Monday January 17 2011. CSX GP38-2 2746 leads three more engines as they pull through CP Elm coming off the SEPTA Norristown Line to the Stony Creek Branch ...
and on the tail end was CSX GP40-2 6248. Unfortunately the train traveled no more than a mile before derailing near Sterigere Street in almost the exact same spot C946 had derailed ten days before, and in an interesting twist, also derailed one engine and five cars as C946 did.
Two days later and the engine and cars have been rerailed ....
but the track was still mangled. It appeared that the only thing that kept the rail from rolling under the entire trains was the asphalted grade crossing at Sterigere Street.
Two more days (and a few more inches of snow) later, B738 made a trip down the creek to pick up the four box cars that were rerailed north of the site, while CSX 6248 and the single car that were rerailed south of the site headed in the other direction later that day.
