Cape May Seashore Lines Rio Grande and Cape May NJ September 2 2010 |
After a hiatus of several years, CMSL was once again running former Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines RDC's into Cape May. Commencing in August and running until the Friday before Labor Day, for the first few runs the RDC's were escorted by GP-7 7000 in PRR Brunswick Green, just to help knock the rust off the rails. By the third week of operations, 7000 was parked at Rio Grande and the RDC's were off on their own. The origination from Rio Grande was change from the previous runs which started at Cape May Courthouse. |
The destination was the end of the line: Cape May Station. Here the first run of the day approaches the station, the disused tracks in the foreground a reminder of more prosperous days when trains filled with harried tourists came in and box cars of fresh seafood went out. |
Meanwhile, PRR 7000 sits at Rio Grande, waiting ... |
for the RDC's to return. This was the next to last day of operation to Cape May, but the run from Tuckahoe to Richland may be returning in the next month or so. |
