NS Harrisburg Line Bridgeport PA and CSX Lansdale Yard Lansdale PA October 23-29 2009 |
Part Two can be found here. |
October 23 2009 CSX B738 brings its train west on the NS Harrisburg Line to Abrams Yard so it can run up the Stony Creek Branch to Lansdale. Included in the consist are two bridge sections on TTX flat cars. They are destined to replace the bridge over the Wissahickon Creek at MP 20.25 on SEPTA's Main Line just north of Gwynedd Valley Station. |
October 25 2009 The bridge sections, manufactured in Massachusetts, are pictured resting in Lansdale Yard. |
October 26 2009 CSX B738, heading up to work the Bethlehem Branch, has the bridge sections tacked on the end. They will be spotted on the branch about where the tank cars are pictured so they can be prepped before their trip to the worksite. |
October 27 2009 Even in the rain, employees of the contractor in charge of the project, Railworks Inc., attach ties, tie plates and rails to the bridge section. As pictured, a number of ties overhang the bridge section, fouling the adjacent track. |
October 29 2009 After the setup is complete, the rails are removed so that the fouling ties can be offloaded onto a truck which will take them to the worksite. |
October 29 2009 An empty TTX flat was added by B738 so that it could be loaded with a pair of concrete abutments for the bridge. |
