Penn Eastern Rail Lines Bustleton Branch Philadephia PA April 30 2007 |
PRL continues its expansion along Amtrak's Northeast Corridor with the takeover of most of the service on the former PRR/PC/CR/CSAO Bustleton Branch in Northeast Philadelphia. Most recently served by Conrail Shared Assets Operations out of Frankford Junction, CSAO still provides service to Muller Inc. (a beer distributor just south of Grant Avenue that handles nearly 10 million cases per year) and interchanges with PRL there, with PRL providing service for the remaining customers. For power, PRL fittingly brought in PRL 2202, pictured here crossing Grant Avenue with a covered hopper destined for the yard just south of the grade crossing. |
PRL 2202 began under PRR as GP9 7068, continued under PC as PC 7068 and was rebuilt as a GP10 by Conrail wearing CR 7557 before going to PRL as PRL 57. PRL 2202's former assignment was on the former RDG and CR now PRL Colebrookdale Branch (a PRL roster can be found here). |
The crew breaks for lunch, parking along Grant Avenue just west of Northeast Philadelphia Airport. |
