The Ice Cream Trolley misses its brothers. Hopefully, the construction on Germantown Avenue is a step toward a return of trolleys to Chestnut Hill (someday). |
As a temporary solution to deteriorating road conditions, last year PennDOT paved over Germantown Avenue between Cresheim Valley Drive and Gowen Avenue. |
For the past month, the section from the Trolley Car Diner to Cresheim Valley Drive has been closed so that the roadway could be redone and the trolley tracks restored. |
A view looking north under the former Pennsylvania Railroad Whitemarch Branch bridge. |
Welcome to Chestnut Hill. The Mermaid Lane loop has seen better days, but at least the tracks, wires and poles are still there. |
Looking south from the loop at the intersection of Germantown Avenue and Cresheim Valley Drive. The construction was supposed to be completed this week, but the reopening is now delayed a week or two. |
The last time work like this was done was down near Wayne Junction back in the 1990's. |
