CSX Trenton Line and NS Morrisville Line Langhorne PA February 26 2006 |
Norfolk Southern moved a heat exchanger from Allentown to Manville to Morrisville this week. Nearing the end of its journey, the train, symboled W996 while on CSX rails, starts the climb from the CSX Trenton Line to the NS Morrisville Line via the Wood Connecting Track. Due to clearance concerns, an eastbound SEPTA local was held at CP Wood until the dimensional move cleared the interlocking. These moves happen every few months, for details of one such move in July 2004, click here and here. |
Leading the train was NS SD70 2533, followed by a caboose and a spacer flat. |
You can see from the tangent at this curve why the spacers are needed. The spacer flat was also used for storage of equipment that the crew might have needed along the way. |
The heat exchanger rode on two depressed center flat cars. |
Another spacer flat followed, with NS ES40DC 7546 at the hind end. |
Now entering the NS Morrisville Line, the train pulled west to clear CP West Lang before reversing to Morrisville and its dockside destination there. |
