CSX Trenton Line July 21 2004 |
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. shipped a heat exchanger from Lehighton PA to Morrisville PA by way of the NS Lehigh, CSX Trenton and NS Morrisville Lines. Due to clearance restrictions, dimensional loads usually travel on the weekends, when there is less traffic on the lines, because the width and length of the load can foul adjacent tracks. This particular piece of equipment is used in the energy industry (more details here ). The NS O56 started its trip on Friday July 16 2004 but only made it as far as Bethlehem PA. On Saturday they continued on to Manville NJ, but did not make the normal trip south on Sunday. Instead the train now called CSX W997 came down the Trenton Line Wednesday morning. I would like to personally thank whomever was responsible, be they CSX and/or NS, for delaying the train as it made a nice birthday present for me. I would also like to thank Andrew Ordun for the heads up. |

Approximately 180 feet long, the heat exchanger sits on two four truck depressed center flat cars owned by Air Products. |
The train consisted of NS/PRR 5435, an Air Products caboose, an MTTX flat car (used as a spacer car), the two APTX depressed flat cars carrying the load, another MTTX flat car and NS/PRR 6704. |
