SEPTA Norristown Line Conshohocken PA October 23 2005 |
SEPTA's emergency evacuation drill. Part One of the drill can be found here. All victims and emergency personnel leaving the scene passed through a decontamination station set up near the grade crossing at Cherry Street just west of the train. |
The haz-mat units carry plastic baby pools as part of their equipment. |
After removing the victims from the engine and cars and securing the hazardous materials, they turned their attention to a "victim" trapped beneath Silverliner 235. |
During the drill, which lasted about 5 hours, SEPTA continued to run R6 Norristown locals in single track operation on Track 2. The train for the drill was on the siding that connected Track 1 to the former Pennsylvania Railroad trackage that ran along side the Reading between Spring Mill and Conshohocken Stations. That track was last used to service a customer at Spring Mill a few years ago and hosted PRR electrified passenger trains until the 1960's. The PRR and Reading catenary structures actually share the center support along this stretch of track. |
