Note: For legal reasons lines and equipment in the United States could not be owned by Canadian National Railways which was a Canadian government entity. Therefore, the name Grand Trunk continued in use there. Grand Trunk Western Railroad for lines in Michigan etc.and simply Grand Trunk (unofficially Grand Trunk Eastern) for lines in New England and New York.
