5428's last day as an Everett locomotive was today. The locomotive was outshopped from Claysburg this morning with "Everett" painted out and "BDRV" stencils in place. AEI tags were also added to the locomotive. BDRV stands for the Belvidere-Delaware River Railroad - a subsidiary of the Black River & Western. The southbound job to Sproul, powered by GP16 1828, picked up 5428, switched AP Green and returned north. The locomotive was then dropped, apart from the regular interchange traffic, near the offices in Duncansville for pickup by Norfolk Southern. Ex-RJCP 1712 will be moved into the shop for traction motor work in the near future.

The Everett has sold GP8 5428 to the Black River & Western. It's replacement will be ex-RJ Corman GP16 1712, which arrived on property during the first week of December.

The RHI America refractory in Sproul has revereted back to the name AP Green. The Claysburg branch of the Everett had approx. 13 cars at various industries as of today. No further traffic to Hoss's has occurred after the UPFE reefer in July.

2002-07-07

Traffic on the Claysburg side continues to grow. The Everett placed a UPFE reefer at the Hoss's distribution center in Claysburg today; the first traffic there in around two years. The crew afterwards performed some shifting work at RHI America.

Service to RHI America in Sproul has resumed after a layoff of over two years. Three NAHX covered hoppers were taken to the industry yesterday. Two were spotted at the loading facility and the third stored on the old boxcar track outside the plant. Excellent news for the southernmost portion of the Claysburg branch!

2002-05-25

Two crews were out on the line yesterday. The daily freight, powered by GP8 5428, and a ballast train loading at NES&L at Roaring Spring, powered by GP16 1828.

2002-05-18

The Everett has begun loading ballast trains at New Enterprise Stone and Lime in Roaring Spring. Destination of the loads is the RJ Corman Railroad in Cresson, PA. As of today (Friday, May 18), four Norfolk Southern hoppers were located there. Current power for these trains has been the standard road locomotive, 5428.

A 2002 schedule of excursions, being operated in conjunction with the Roaring Spring Historical Society and the Horseshoe Curve Chapter of the NRHS, has been posted at http://roaringspring.net/trainstation.htm. Check there for schedules and details regarding ordering tickets.

5428 has returned as the railroad's primary locomotive. 1828 is back inside the Claysburg enginehouse. 6051 and 922 are at Claysburg with stacks capped. 4, both cabooses, and office car 912 remain in Duncansville.

2002-04-13

1828 has, for the last few weeks, been the primary power on the railroad. It remains in RJ Corman red/silver but with the railroad name and logos painted out. A small 'EV' is stenciled on both sides of the cab. Ex-GSS 922 has been moved to Claysburg for inspection. The railroad is now home to ex-Norfolk And Western bay-window caboose 557546. It was spotted in Claysburg on April 5th and, along with 80-Ton #4, has been moved to Duncansville. The caboose carries the reporting marks RVCX and is chalk-stenciled 'Donation to Hands-On Children's Museum, Johnson City, TN'. A group of track car owners were reported to have operated over the line today as well.

Trackwork on the AP Green (RHI America) spur has begun! The job has been contracted to the Everett. As of today, the old bridge ties had been removed and a new deck has been installed. This bridge differs slightly from the old in that no walkway is present on the new 'span'. No completion date for the work has yet been set.

2002-03-19

It appears that trackwork is slated to begin at the RHI America plant in Sproul. This trackage has been inactive for well over two years. The RHI America spur is now the southernmost point on the former Bedford Branch. Also, the former Conrail and PRR boxcars used for storage at News Print Company in Claysburg have been sold to the Everett for scrap.

2002-02-19

Traffic on the Claysburg end of the railroad is practically booming! McCabe's received five boxcars on the 18th and four more today. Sixteen (16!) covered hoppers are around the Claysburg shops now for unloading. Twelve of them are new this week.

2002-02-11

Good news for the Claysburg-Sproul portion of the railroad... a higher number of cars have been reported on this end of the line. Seven boxcars were spotted at News Printing Company. Five more covered hoppers are at the rail-truck facility in Claysburg. McCabe's has had more than 20 boxcars delivered in the last two to three weeks.

2002-02-03

A quick trip around the railroad reveals 5428 continuing as the primary road locomotive. 922 remains in Duncansville along with business car 912 and caboose 91517. 6051 is at Claysburg on the inspection pit track and 1828 is back inside the enginehouse. 80T GE number 4 is stored unserviceable. The three bad-order freight cars from the wreck on 1/16 are at Brookes Mills, with orange bad order cards. The covered hopper remains on its side at Roaring Spring. 5428 has been noted with a bracket over its horn, presumably as a deterrent to future horn thefts such as happened to 6051 and 8933 during May 2001. Work has not yet begun on rebuilding the RHI America spur at Sproul. The track, deemed unsafe to operate, has been inactive for around two years. The ex-Lackawanna MU Cars, owned by the Horseshoe Curve Chapter of the NRHS, are stored on a siding at Roaring Spring.

The Morrisons Cove Herald reports that the Everett derailed two freight cars (the third and fourth) of a seven car train on January 16th. The derailment happened on the curve behind WKMC Radio in Roaring Spring. No hazardous materials were involved, and cause of derailment is speculated to be weight of a load of corn in one of the freight cars. Three cars have been bad-ordered as a result of the derailment, and a fourth (a covered hopper) is on its side at the site of the derailment. The use of 1828 on the Claysburg side of the railroad can best be attributed to this mishap.

2002-01-16

1828 was reported active on the Claysburg portion of the railroad today. This is the first known revenue run for this locomotive. It has previously spent much time inside the Claysburg Shops. GP8 5428 has been the primary locomotive for the railroad in recent months.
