It has been five years since Sue and I took the train from Orange County, CA, to Santa Barbara for a Car Free Vacation. Laura Kath suggested that for this trip, we concentrate on what's new, and green, in Santa Barbara for visitors. As it turns out, the Santa Barbara Car Free program is bigger, and greener than it was five years ago. And, other California cities have used the Santa Barbara Car Free model to start their own programs. Many of the original Santa Barbara businesses are still
members, plus many new ones have joined. There is now a 20% discount
on Amtrak Surfliner tickets to Santa Barbara County cities, and many discounts
in town for just showing your train ticket.
