Two bottles of Fess Parker Wine were available for sale in the room as was a bottle of Fiji water.

An excellent welcome gift arrived:  Pellegrini sparkling water and three 'formal' chocolate covered strawberries.  Our first touch of the fantastic place this hotel really is.
Our accommodations were so nice, we decided to stay in and have room service deliver our evening meal.  Above is my Caesar's salad with salmon.

You could just step over the wall and walk straight to the beach, across Cabrillo Blvd.

The resort is a 24 acre property with vast lawns, palm trees, and Spanish style buildings.

The following informational card was on the desk in our room at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort.  I did not know about its connection to the former Southern Pacific Roundhouse, and I took a second look at the Plaza Del Sol off the main lobby.

Photos of the Plaza Del Sol, symbolizing the Southern Pacific Railroad roundhouse that stood here until 1961.

Set your GPS for Calle Puerto Vallarta and Cabrillo Blvd., the eastern border of the resort.

The large windows in the circular structure seem authentic.  Big enough to accommodate a locomotive.

Inside the 'roundhouse replica' you realize that the outside wall includes windows, then there is an interior corridor with circular arches leading into the open topped Plaza del Sol.

Right, through the windows you can see across Cabrillo Blvd. to the south facing beach.

One double arch is an opening to a sidewalk to the beach.

Inside the Plaza del Sol, you see one staircase to an upper level where you can see the whole circular plaza.

Down the eastward circular hall from the lobby, past a beautiful blue waterfall sculpture, is Rodney's Steakhouse.

East of the resort, at Cabrillo Blvd. and Calle Puerto Vallarta is the 'Rainbow Arch' where you can catch public transportation to the pier and downtown.

The gardens of the Fess Parker Resort are beautifully maintained.

To capture the Pacific Coast sunset, all I had to do was step over the wall and walk to the large lawn and look westward.

The tall palms on the left are along the beach and Cabrillo Blvd.  The palms on the right are on the resort property.
IMG_3744.jpg
With no obstructions between our suite and the Pacific Ocean except for silhouetted palms in the sunset, I couldn't resist the urge to take more photos.

Even the reflection in the doors to the Plaza del Sol was worth a photo.

The stay was outstanding, as I mentioned in my survey.  Beautiful facility and staff.  Use of our name by room service and bell captain was great and the warm cookies were great!  The train connection (mentioned on a sign in the room) was outstanding for a railfan like me and my readers.  I didn't know about this connection and appreciate the architectural replication of the roundhouse.  Thanks for a fantastic stay - it was hard to leave and do the other activities on which I needed to report.
