Add-A-Ride

Introduced in September 1975 and ending January 2, 1984; when universal free transfers started, and with the fare increase to 90 cents.

Add-A-Ride Tickets were used to provide a third segment bus ride (after initial payment of full fare for first segment, and issuance and use of transfer for second segment). These were issued on NYCTA and MaBSTOA buses at half fare of the normal fare, or in some cases to provide transfer to a non-NYCTA bus route (Triboro, Green, Nassau County, etc).

I.e.: if full fare was 50 cents, then Add-A-Ride was 25 cents. No further or additional transfer was available on an Add-A-Ride Ticket.

When the fare rose to 60 cents in June 28, 1980, the Add-A-Ride tickets remained at 25 cents.

It is believed most, if not all surface routes; in all five boroughs had Add-A-Ride tickets, making for extensive dates and route combinations.

Removable PM ONLY section at bottom for AM use.
Pulp paper with large orange or blue numerals of date issued

   Backs blank.

Orange or blue denotes direction of travel.

Three letter bus depot code and stock number and printing revision date in selvage.

As with the regular transfers on the previous page, we see the decipherable coding on the selvage again for Add-A-Ride transfers. The bus depot "garage" that the particular route is assigned to and serviced at, is used as a three letter code; followed by a stock number. With issued tickets, which have been detached from the selvage; these codes are not normally seen, so they are only visible in on either booklets of transfers or complete transfers broken out of books with their selvage attached.

As Queens was served by many independent bus companies; actual NYCTA bus routes in that borough were minimal.
