The New England States

October 1 - 3, 1999

A three-day two-night adventure exploring some of New England's best railroading

Enjoy a fun-packed weekend riding several of New England's famous tourist railroads: The Mt. Washington Cog Railway, The Conway Scenic Railroad, Maine Coast Navigation and Railroad, and the Seashore Trolley Museum. The trip includes round-trip airfare to Manchester, New Hampshire, two nights' accommodations, ground transportation, rail fare, and "Dinner in the Diner" on Saturday.

Friday night we depart BWI airport at 6:05 PM. aboard Southwest Airlines flight 227 for Manchester, NH. We spend the night at the Comfort Inn in Concord, NH.

Your railroad adventure begins Saturday morning with a ride on one of two spectacular trips: The Notch Train or the Cog Railway.

Saturday evening brings a 6 PM departure from North Conway, NH and "Dinner in the Diner" aboard the Conway Scenic Railroad's Valley Train. Relive the golden days of railroad dining as you travel aboard the elegant dining car Chocorua. Your meal will be prepared on-board, and served to you with warm, friendly Yankee hospitality. Enjoy fine cuisine and a leisurely 21 mile, 1 3/4 hour sunset trip through the Mt. Washington Valley and surrounding White Mountains to Bartlett and back.

Saturday night we stay at the Waves Motor Inn at Old Orchard Beach, ME.

Sunday morning at 11 AM your rail odyssey continues on the Maine Coast Navigation and Railroad. Departing from Wiscasset, Maine, you make an approximately 2 hour round-trip along the beautiful and scenic Maine seashore and coastal areas behind vintage equipment.

Sunday afternoon visit the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine. The Seashore Trolley Museum was founded in 1939, to save Biddeford and Saco Railroad open trolley #31 from destruction. Sixty years, and over 250 transit vehicles later, it has grown into the oldest and largest electric railway museum in the world. Experience the power of the electric motors, as your restored, antique trolley, pulls away from the Visitor's Center platform, for a trip to Talbott Park. Along the way you will travel through the Maine countryside over part of the old Atlantic Shore interurban trolley line that once connected Kittery, Kennebunkport, and Biddeford.

Sunday night we departure Manchester at 7 PM aboard Southwest Airlines flight 234. Our scheduled arrival at BWI is 8:15 PM.
