WNYRHS WINTER TRAIN SHOW 2010

19th Annual WNYRHS Winter
Train & Toy Show 2010 Review

The weekend of February 20th and 21st, 2010 was a great weekend for our 19th Annual Winter Train and Toy Show! It was a very successful show with over 400 tables set up and in two buildings! Over 4,600 adults and 1,600 children attended the show for a total attendance well over 6,000 for the two days! This was one of our biggest February shows ever. Many vendors reported great returns on their tables. Thank You to all who were able to attend and as always, there were plenty of things to see and do for the entire family! Of course we had had four huge modular layouts featuring everything from "N" Scale all the way up to some very impressive "G" Gauge main lines. Hundreds of tables of model railroading rolling stock, accessories, electronics and books on how to do it made it hard to decide what to buy! Most of our regular vendors were back for a chance to sell their inventory and some of our new dealers had a very successful weekend. Our  "Giant Railroad Quilt Raffle"  was a big success and sales at the Society Table were brisk.

Congratulations go out to the lucky winner with Ticket #1553, Maryann Zagorski! Maryann was eagerly awaiting a phonecall, as news about the drawing had already reached her thru her son-in-law, Al Olmstead. A former Cheektowaga resident, Maryann now resides in Leesville, SC, but keeps a close watch on Western New York after moving south several years ago. She purchased a single ticket for the Quilt Raffle and was really surprised to hear the news that she had won! Maryann wanted Mrs. Wilke to know how much she will appreciate this Quilt and to thank her for her making it available for the Raffle. Maryann told me that this is the first time she has ever won a raffle! The Quilt will find its way down to her at Easter Time when her daughter comes down to visit. With the cold weather in the Carolinas, this Quilt will help warm things up a bit!

Nearly $1000.00 in tickets were sold, so we would like to thank everyone for their enthusiastic support. A special thanks goes to Maureen Wilke for her extreme generosity. Proceeds from the raffle will be put towards the restoration work on the Williamsville Depot.

"The Buffalo Model Boat Club" and the "Lower Lakes Marine Historical Society" brought a taste of spring and things to come with their impressive display and The "Medina Railroad Museum" sent their represenative to inform the public of their up comming trips. The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation shared their progress and future events with a great display of articles and photos of the terminal.

The "Expo Building" was also open with its all weather connecting hallway to a FREE "Kids Play Zone" filled with interactive video games and The Erie County Health Department set up at the show to provide Free Flu Shots to anyone that wanted them!

If you were not able to attend this show you do not have long to wait for our 29th Annual Greater Buffalo Show in November. Hope you enjoy some of the shots below of the show provided by Society member Robert Snyder. For those of you that came to this show, we hope you enjoyed yourself and that we will see you again!
