The Reno Transportation Rail Access Corridor (ReTRAC) was undertaken to solve noise pollution and traffic congestion by lowering the UP’s mainline below grade (Reno Trench Project).  The construction of the trench was completed on November 18, 2005.  Amtrak officially moved into the renovated former Southern Pacific station on January 4, 2006.
