At the second photo, I had a question, "Why V?". After opening this page, Mr. Scott Calta sent me e-mail and taught me the reason why the letter is "V". So, I'm going to show his answer below. Thanks, Mr. Scott Calta. "In answer to your question about the Atlanta Amtrak station, the reason the sign says SOVTHERN RAILWAY (with a V instead of a U) is because that it is an old tradition from the Latin language to render letters U and V the same way, as a V. This is very common in ancient Latin inscriptions, and even in formal, stone-carved inscriptions in English, until the middle of the twentieth century." |
