In March 2005, a westbound local crosses the Rio Grande as it heads out of El
Paso on Main 1. In a couple hours, it will return on Main 2 as an eastbound.
Standard operating procedure is for westbounds to operate on Main 1, while
eastbounds use Main 2. The two main tracks, which use separate rights of way
to pass through the mountains west of the Rio Grande, converge onto a common
right of way near Anapra, a couple miles to the west.
