Dallas, Garland & Northeastern - Dingo Red

Today's Dallas, Garland & Northeastern consists of three separate lines radiating from downtown Dallas. According to RailAmerica's website on the DGNO, they are:

* Garland - Greenville - Trenton (ex-MKT...featured in the article "Katy bar the door" in Trains Magazine, August 1998, pp.52-56, by Jimmy Barlow)

* Dallas - Carrollton - Lake Dallas (ex-MKT)

* Carrollton - McKinney - Sherman (ex-SP)

DGNO also has negotiated trackage rights over some of the Class 1 railroads in the Dallas area to connect with its own lines and to conduct interchange.

Over the past few years, most of DGNO's two-tone blue locomotives have departed the property, replaced by locomotives in other color schemes. These photographs illustrate DGNO's red-and-gray paint scheme, which is the closest thing to a "standard" paint scheme on the Dingo these days. With RailAmerica having recently merged with RailTex, it may only be a matter of time before RailAmerica's red-gray-and-blue paint scheme becomes prominent in the Dallas metroplex.

  MNA SD20s in Dallas Arguably the most interesting locomotives in service on the Dingo are the two ex-Missouri & Northern Arkansas SD20s, which have been on DGNO since 1995. Here, SD20s 1000 and 1001 are tied down near Tower 19 in Dallas on May 4, 1996.

The tracks in the foreground belong to DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) whose light rail line connecting downtown Dallas with residential areas to the south was in the final stages of construction (at the time of this photo) and would soon be in service.
  DGNO at Tower 19 Three things at once: DGNO's two SD20s lead a transfer past the location where Tower 19 once stood, while two DART light rail trains meet one another on DART's bridge over the Trinity River southwest of downtown Dallas. Photograph taken in August 1996.

  DGNO SD20 2001 - Dallas, TX One of the ex-MNA SD20's has been renumbered to 2001, and relettered for DGNO. The 2001 is illustrated here, passing Dallas Union Station during a switch move in May 2000.

  DGNO SD20 2001 - Dallas, TX Photographed in May 2000, DGNO 2001 passes Dallas Union Station while performing a switch move, while DGNO 4018 awaits the arrival of Amtrak train 22. DGNO was recently awarded a contract to handle some of Amtrak's Dallas express business in downtown Dallas; therefore, DGNO power can frequently be seen at Union Station awaiting the arrival of one of the daily Amtrak trains.
