Southwest Shorts: Dallas, Garland and Northeastern
Dallas, Garland & Northeastern - Dingo Blue
Dallas, Garland, & Northeastern began shortline service in the greater Dallas area early
in 1992. As was typical of many RailTex shortline operations,
DGNO's motive power fleet during the early years consisted of a mix of
geeps of various backgrounds --in various paint schemes-- from numerous RailTex lines.
However, at least five DGNO locomotives received the "official" Dingo two-tone blue
paint scheme which featured a representation of Texas' "Lone Star" state flag. Featured
here are seven photographs illustrating the blue-and-blue era of the Dallas, Garland &
Northeastern.

Dallas, Garland & Northeastern GP7 2207 (ex-ATSF, same number) was photographed at
Garland, Texas on September 10, 1993.

For several years, Garland was THE place to see Dingo locomotives, as the small yard near
W. Walnut and 5th St. served as DGNO's primary engine house and maintenance facility.

Can you spot the Dingo locomotive in this photograph? DGNO 2022 was tied up on the
property of a beer distribution center near Tower 19 in Dallas on April 30, 1994. Gettin'
thirsty?

DGNO 2013 runs light past Tower 19 in Dallas on an overcast December 18 , 1992. On that
date, Tower 19 was moved from the north side of the ex-Santa Fe line to the south side, to
allow crews to begin construction of a bridge over the Trinity River for a new DART (Dallas
Area Rapid Transit) light rail line. The workers in the background have the Tower supported
with steel beams and truck tires and are about halfway through the process of moving it.
